At the end of spring, when the sun's warm glows lift the dew and the air is filled with a soft lovely scent of blooming roses, Turkey invites you to an experience that stimulates your senses and deepens your knowledge. It is May, the beginning of the roseharvest in Isparta region, where mountains and lakes meet. Here, the rose sparkles with its rich history and cultural value. In this southwestern corner of Turkey, you will find the source of one of the world's most refined and prized essential oils: roseoil.
Rose fields where tradition and craft go hand in hand
Fields full of Rosa Damascena Trigintipetala bushes make a beautiful décor of flowers harvested at daybreak. This rose, with its at least 30 silky and fragrant petals, is still picked by hand. During the rose season in May and June, surrounding Isparta buzzes with energy. You experience and smell it. Distilleries are running at full speed to process thousands of kilos of roses. You will experience this heartwarming process yourself, as during this study tour you will be completely taken by the rose and embraced by the environment to discover its true essence.
Discover and learn what you don't find in books
In three full days, you will learn all about the symbolism, production and differences between conventional, organic and Demeter-certified rose oil. We will help harvest and distill our own roseoil and rosehydrosol.Inspiring stories of origin and cultivation are shared and we learn the ins and outs of essential oil and hydrolate. During a guided tour at one of the largest distilleries in the world, you will experience the production processes. A visit to the laboratory offers unique insight into the quality analyses of essential oil and hydrolate. Experiencing a rose treatment and creative blending with essential oils complete the programme.
A journey full of discoveries, nature and culture
Everything takes place in an area rich in nature and culture. All our senses will be touched. Several aromatic plants such as rosemary, thyme, lavender and camomile will cross our path. Typical Turkish dishes will be served at the cosy family guesthouse where we stay. A private bus with driver will take us everywhere.
